The Winning Pitch
How to Captivate, Connect, and Secure Support
We’re so excited to be kicking off our From Pitch to Impact course this Tuesday with an incredible group of nonprofit CEOs, board directors, and senior leaders from across the country.
This program has been designed for leaders who want to sharpen their pitch, speak with clarity and confidence, and build long-term funding relationships. It’s about more than just presentation skills—it’s about knowing how to communicate your impact in a way that connects emotionally, strategically, and persuasively.
To celebrate the launch, here’s a sneak peek of some of the course content—our top tips for delivering a winning pitch that actually works.
Top Tips for a Winning Pitch
1. Lead with Your Most Compelling Story or Insight
Start strong. Open with a powerful story, a striking data point, or a bold insight that captures attention and communicates the heart of your work. You have one minute—make it count.
2. Tailor Your Pitch to Your Audience
Fundraising isn’t one-size-fits-all. Know your audience: their values, priorities, and past giving. Shape your message to resonate. A tailored pitch shows respect and increases your chance of success.
3. Make a Clear and Confident Ask
Be specific about what you need and why now. Whether it’s financial support, strategic introductions, or in-kind assistance, funders appreciate clarity—and confidence.
4. Focus on What Matters Most
Don’t try to say everything. Strip it back to your core message: the problem, your solution, and the impact. Simplicity is powerful.
5. Connect with Your Audience, Not Just Your Slides
Don’t hide behind a PowerPoint. Speak with warmth and conviction. Your authenticity is more persuasive than any perfectly polished deck.
6. Demonstrate Your Readiness and Credibility
Funders want to see that you’re capable of delivering. Showcase your leadership, governance, strategy, and results. Show that you’re not just passionate—you’re prepared.
